The Count Down To My Own Demise

I have, for the last 9 months, been employed by company "B". I am in a remote office far from the HQ and have the feeling that they will be shutting down my office once my final project is finished. I have been doing as little as possible to maintain my employed status and fill most of my days playing video games and writing blogs to fill my time. This blog will be a running daily diary of my life until I am fired. I refuse to quit. Let’s see how long I can go.

Ok, so before I go on a long hiatus for New Years and forget the details of this story I’ll document the incident that I had with the company car. Now, to preface this story, I have to mention that there are two company cars that were left in my care when I got back from my last extended trip overseas and which were also included in my “Promotion”. The first car was a 2003 Toyota Camry and prior to taking ownership of this vehicle the previous employee got into an accident the day he was fired and damaged the right front of the car pretty bad. The other vehicle was a brand new 2006 SUV that had only 7000 miles on it. The biggest issue with this vehicle is that it is a lease and it is on the 9th month of a 39 month lease with 12,000 miles a year allocated to it.

So When I first got my “Promotion” I was told I could use the Camry as I pleased. Although it had been damaged it was a nice car to drive and better than my own ’94 4-door-shit-box. So I drove it for about 2 weeks when the sales guy who had been fired returned the 2006 SUV he had been driving. The day he returned it he told me I might as well drive it as it would just be sitting there. Of course being that it was newer and did not have any damage I figured “Why Not?” So I parked the Camry in the company spot in the office garage and took over the SUV. As the months when on HQ finally told “Office Assistant Girl” to look into getting rid of the SUV as it was a lease and cost too much money. So, “OAG” and I began to place it onto Criagslist.org and another type of ad service web site that she knew of. We had 4 inquiries in the first week and that was it. We also found out that trying to turn over ownership of a lease is not very easy. There are two ways of going about it. 1) Have the person who wants to take over the lease do a joint lease with the current lessee (Currently “Dickboy” is the name on the lease, why he did not put the lease in the company name is beyond comprehension but that is also why he is “Dickboy”. Please see the “More of a Chess Match” post to understand who “Dickboy” is. But also keep in mind “Dickboy is out of the country and his position requires him to be at HQ office overseas) 2) have the person who wants the lease pay the full amount owed on the contract, in this case it would be roughly $13,000. So as you could imagine it is not easy to find someone who would want to do this. Also, because I was the one benefiting from this whole stupid thing anytime I got a call or e-mail about the SUV I pretty much ignored them, therefore allowing me more time to drive the nice SUV. 

So another month goes by and I’ve ignored 4 e-mails and “OAG” has had no luck. Now even though this lease is in “Dickboy’s” name he is still having the company pay for this vehicle each month and that is why HQ has directed “OAG” to get rid of it. Since we were having problems unloading it “Dickboy” works out a deal with his brother-in-laws-friends-roommate to just send him a check for the lease each month. Seriously! This is why this guy is such a fucking idiot and the reason this company is in the state that it’s in, he constantly tried to make deals like this without really considering the possible ramifications if something went wrong. Anyway, I’m told by “OAG” the brother-in-laws-friends-roommate is going to pick up the vehicle in a week so I basically have that amount of time left with it and then I’ll have to go back to driving the Camry, which really isn’t that bad but I have really become attached to the SUV and was hoping to take it on the 4-day trip the Wife and I are going on the week of New Years.

Well, the last weekend I’ve got the SUV and I pick up a friend of mine to go out and we make a quick pit stop for coffee. I pull into the parking lot and think that I can squeeze into a certain space that has a car on the right side of the spot and a wall on the left side. As I’m making this precarious maneuver my friend kind of jumps and says “hey, did you just nudge that car?” I didn’t think I had so I continue to move into the spot. As I do we both notice the car on the right move. “Oh Shit” I pull out and drive down to the underground parking structure. We both get out and look. The front right bumper and quarter panel are scratched to hell. In my heads I’m thinking “shit, I can’t have this screw up the deal with the brother-in-laws-friends-roommate and also how bad did I just fuck up the other person’s car.” The damage to the SUV estimated in my head is about $800 but I’m about to make a dick move. I ask my friend if he thinks anyone saw us do it to which he is unsure. I say fuck it and we leave. Now the only thing I am really mad about is that I screwed the other person. But I don’t want to have to explain all this to the company, to “OAG”, and to “Dickboy” because ultimately I’m not supposed to be driving the SUV I was only allowed in my “Promotion” to drive the Camry.

Well the initial incident is behind me since I became “That Guy” and took off. But now I have to spend the next week or so making sure no one sees this huge fuck up. I also have in the back of my head the fact that someone could have seen me do it and took my plate # down as we took off but that is really only a passing thought. I have a plan that once the new guy comes to look at the vehicle that he’ll notice it and I’ll just play dumb and say I have no idea how it happened and wonder if it was caused by someone else while I was parked at a mall or something. So, I come into work three or four days after the incident and “OAG” tells me the guy is coming to see the SUV, that particular day I was going to leave early anyway. I tell her that I’ll take the Camry home and leave her with the SUV keys and paperwork so that she can show it to him. I leave and figure I’ll get a call that night while she’s showing it to him and she’ll ask me about what happened to the SUV because it’s all scratched up but I don’t. I get into work the next day and the SUV is gone! I get into the office and ask “OAG” what happened when he came over and she says he’ll be back that Friday with the first check and that she took his license as collateral! My jaw has now hit the floor! Nothing is said about the damage but that is the least of my thoughts. “OAG” has just given some stranger the keys to a brand new car with no real way to know if this guy didn’t just steal it. There is no solid way of knowing if this guy is going to bring it right to a chop shop. I explain to her how bad this is and she is clueless as to why I’m telling her all of the possible way s this guy could have just stolen the car. She thinks that just because she has his license that he has to come back to which I counter with “How do you know it’s not a fake ID?!”

To give you an idea how clueless “OAG” is, two days before this she didn’t have enough cash to pay for parking as she was leaving a mall parking garage. Instead of turning around and going to an ATM she parked her car next to the booth and gave her credit card to the Parking Attendant to hold while she went to an ATM to get cash. Initially the parking attendant had asked for her Drivers License but she was afraid of the possibility having her identity stolen so she gave him her credit card to hold. The next morning she went to get gas and her card was declined. She called the credit card company and found out her card had been maxed out after a $1200 purchase had been made in Oklahoma (at least 1500 miles from us). It is my assumption that the parking attendant got the card number, the expiration date, and the 3 number security code on the back of the card and e-mailed all of that info to someone out there. Or they could have just purchased something online at a store in Oklahoma. What ever happened she’s proved once again that she has no sense of logic but I digress.

So now “brother-in-laws-friends-roommate” has made no payment for the SUV, has signed no paperwork for the SUV, but has possession of the SUV and we have no idea where he is or who he really is. Seriously when I got into the office that morning she was happy and smiling because she was so proud that she got rid of the SUV and that HQ and Dickboy would be happy that there was one less bill we had to pay. Of course her smile quickly disappeared once I explained the possibility that this guy might never show up again. We decided to wait till Friday to see if he showed up and I told her that I really wanted no part of any of these deals it was all between her Dickboy and “brother-in-laws-friends-roommate”. That night she got a call from the guy and he told her what time on Friday he wanted to come by but that he also wanted to look at the Camry to potentially but it too. “OAG” got off the phone from this call and screamed “You’ll never believe it! He just called and wants to buy the Camry too. See, he is real and he is going to pay! This is great news!” to which I replied immediately “Of course he wants the Camry, he just stole a brand new SUV from you yesterday and figures your gullible enough to just hand over the keys to another car with no questions asked. If I was him I’d do that same thing!” If it’s not apparent, I said this with a heavy, heavy dose of sarcasm to which “OAG” lost her smile and sunk slowly back down into her chair. Yes, on top of being a lazy non-working slacker, I’m a cynical sarcastic prick also.

Friday arrives and amazingly enough the guy comes to the office and he also has a friend with him. In my head I am imagining this guy brought his friend with him to see what the “stupid-girl-who-give-cars-away” looks like. It’s like when you’re driving and someone in front of you cuts you off, you have that urge to get up next to them and see what they look like, basically just to see what “Stupid” looks like. So he and his friend are talking to “OAG” and they’re speaking in another language (the HQ language that I can’t speak). “OAG” comes over to my desk and asks for the keys to the Camry so they can take a look at it. They all leave and come back about 20 minutes later. It was already past noon when they had arrived and I was about to get lunch but decided to stick around to see what was going to happen, they had been here for about an hour by the time they came back from looking at the Camry and I was getting hungry. So, when they got back into the office I asked “OAG” what was going on because I wanted to take the Camry to lunch but if they were going to take it I would just go down the street to the pizza place. She informs me that they were not here to take both but were deciding on whether to take the Camry and leave the SUV or just to take the SUV and do the paperwork for it. This was an unexpected surprise to me and to tell you the truth I was hoping that they’d take the Camry so that I would have the SUV again. After another 20 minutes of discussing things they decide to take the SUV and leave the Camry.

“Brother-in-laws-friends-roommate” gave “OAG” a check signed some papers and he and his friend left. All the while I have been wondering if he might be trying to steal the SUV I had kinda put the damage I had done to it in the back of my mind. About a minute after they left I told “OAG” that I was starving and that I was going to get lunch. She was parked behind the Camry so I had to have her come down to the garage and move her car so I could get out. The elevators in our building are painfully slow so when we got to the elevator “brother-in-laws-friends-roommate” was still there waiting for it. We all pile into the elevator and go to the garage. As we get down there “OAG” say “Oh yeah, hey I have to show you something.” (Me: *gulp*) “When he took the SUV a few days ago he called me that night and told me there was some damage on the bumper.” I quickly responded to her with this. “Really, how do we know he didn’t do it himself?” This is what she says to me – “Well he called me right away as soon as he saw it. I don’t think he would do something like that if he did it himself.” Seriously I don’t know how I have not strangled her! I told her that since he did not bring it up to her before he took the vehicle and because we had not seen this damage before that it was not our responsibility. No one can prove one way or the other who did it, other than my own admission of guilt on this blog, but because he did not point it out prior to driving it away it is his responsibility. I like to believe that I got away clean but I really do feel kinda bad for screwing up the other car.

ON another note: By the time it was all said and done and we had given up control of this SUV I had racked up about 4000 mile on it bringing the grand total of miles to just fewer than 11,000. If you’ve never had a lease or don’t know about them, when you turn the vehicle over to the dealer at the end of the lease you get charged for every mile over the allocated amount of miles on the contract. For the first year alone on the SUV there was now 11,000 miles on a 12,000 mile a year contract and it’s only the 9th month of the entire contract. At this rate the SUV will have 14,600 mile on it in the first year or 2600 mile over. With a 39 month lease and 2600 mile per year over that’s 7800 miles total over for the contract of the lease. Normal overage charges for a lease are like 22cents per mile over. When this SUV gets turned in to the dealer it’s going to cost another $1800 just for the miles. Glad I could help.

Well, there’s my final story of the year from this place. I have a conference call with the “Director of Operations” on Tuesday night Jan 2nd so I’m sure next Wed. posts will be chalk full of details of my impending demise.

Till then…have a great New Year...I’ll still be playing games!

    New Year Schedule
So, Office Assistant Girl" Is not coming in today as she’s traveling to go see her boyfriend this weekend. They live in different cities in the same state 4 hours away from each other and really only see each other 2 or 3 times a month. Regardless, she took off last night and told me she's going down to see him and would not be in today so being the worthless employee that I am I strolled in to the office today around 10:45 just to update this blog and play some games. I'll be leaving to meet the wife for dinner at 5 pm. So I'll be here for a grand total of 5 1/2 hours today.

I took off yesterday at 3 pm, came in late today and will be leaving early again tonight. I have Monday off. Our overseas office has Mon, Tues., and Wed. off so we'll have no new production assets to send to the west coast client until Thursday and I'm leaving early on Thursday to go on a 4 day trip with the Wife so I won’t be in at all on Friday. It shall be a productive week...not! Whatever.

Before I even came in this morning I went to the bank to cash my first monthly payment check. Surprisingly enough there were enough funds in the account to cover it! After taxes I was paid $3600 to do absolutely nothing! I am really hoping this goes on till February at least. I think by that time I'm going to go fucking nuts if I don't have a real job.

So be it. Happy New Year people...I'm still playing games!

I just installed a script called "Snap Anywhere"

Snap Preview Anywhere enables anyone visiting your site to get a glimpse of what other sites you're linking to, without having to leave your site. By rolling over any link, the user gets a visual preview of the site without having to go there, thus eliminating wasted "trips" to linked sites.

Go check out Snap they seem like they're going to be the closest competitor to Google in the coming years.

    Gaming online and at "work"...RULES!
Sure I didn’t post anything on here yesterday but that doesn’t mean I actually did any work. I was so engrossed in my game of “Dark Crusade” that I just skipped posting. Also I had to leave early to bring a friend to the airport. I do have to elaborate on my game yesterday though. I had been playing the “skirmish” battles of the game for the last few days but was becoming somewhat bored with it. So in an effort to utilize the technology that someone worked so hard to incorporate into the game I decided to play online.

Tuesday I had realized that I was skipping this feature, to play against other people, and wanted to try my hand at beating a live player rather than the scripted computer. I had attempted this type of online interaction before with X-Box live but after three months of getting my 33 year old ass handed to me by 12 year olds I pretty much gave up on the notion. Granted It was the original X-box live games I was playing and this was 2 years ago, and also I really, really suck at Halo but, I also tried playing car games against those little fuckers and to no avail I continued to hear shrieks of pre-pubescent excitement when they smoked my ass. After getting completely frustrated with never winning a game or a race I stopped playing and started fucking with them. I’d join Halo games and play for the wrong team; I’d intentionally crash into other cars, etc. You get the picture.

So yes I decided after all that to go online with my PC games and try my luck. I was happy to see that at least with “Dark Crusade” I am able to join games at my level…n00b. I had a great time too. One of the games lasted 2 ½ hours and it was a 3 on 3 free for all, winner kill all game. As soon as I’m done with this post that is exactly what I plan on doing. So other than driving a friend to the airport yesterday that’s all I did.

There is one story from the office that I’ll share later today or tomorrow. It’s about the dent I put into one of the company cars.

I hope I’ve been able to distract you away from your pathetic meaningless job that you also hate for at least a few moments.

Till then…screw you guys I’m playin’ games.

Just got back from a 3 hour lunch.
    Tuesday, December 26, 2006
    Yep,

I went home, banged the wife (her company gives her the week off), ate lunch, watched a program on "HD Net" and returned 3 hours later. I am now surfing the net but will soon be playing a 3rd round of "Dark Crusade" in about 30 minutes.

Here are some decent links I have found in the last hour.

Visitors can share their awful work experiences at jobs they'd like to quit.

Job Vent looks very cool and the more people who add thier company the better. I will add "Company B" as soon as I'm fired. :)

Yeah well, it's the day after and I'm here at "work". Bullshit. All of our clients are off for the next week and I now have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do as there is no one to send our updates to. But HQ cares not and "Office Assistant Girl" and I will be here all week. I am logging off Blogger and going to play "Dark Crusade".

Yesterday was fun at the in-laws, the wife and I brought a friend along to her parents place for dinner. Her (the friend) family is not in the state so it was nice knowing she would not be at her apartment all day doing nothing. My prized gift that I received from the whole day was a pound of certified Kona coffee. I just finished my second travel mug of it and feel...enlightened. If you've never had true Kona or Jamaican coffee I highly recommend it.

I'll be here all week...PLAYING GAMES!

    Happy Holidays.

    Screw this place.

Well, word on the street has it that we are going to file for bankruptcy and the assets (including me and "OAG") from the US office will be sold off to a new company from overseas that is trying to get a start up placed in America. "OAG" is blindly accepting of this notion given to her by our new Director of Operations but I see no reasons why the new company would take on old baggage. Regardless of what happens I know I'll be here till the first week of January.

In other news, Dickboy told "OAG" to give the keys to one of the company cars to a friend of the brother-in-law of his sisters friend. Yeah sounds kind of lame and a bad move. But guess what - last night this guy came buy and she gave him the keys. This is a brand new 2006 SUV and "OAG" didn't even have him fill out the application. He gave her a copy of his license and told her he'd come back and fill it out after new years. LOL stupid people. these are the dumb-asses that I have to deal with every day. I really need to write a book about all of this. I have another blog that I have started writing the details of my travels over the past year with this company maybe one day I'll put both of these together.

I'll put up another post later today before I leave. Not playing games today, doing some personal research.

    Our Christmas Party
    Thursday, December 21, 2006

"O.A.G." and I just got back from our "Company" Christmas party. My wife has today and tomorrow off so she joined us. I spent the majority of the "party" telling the wife about the latest Dickboy saga and wanted to do this because "O.A.G." would be there to back me up. See, the wife hardly believes half of these stories so having a little back up from “OAG” was good.

Well, yesterday I did not do one fucking thing. I played my Tycoon game, on the laptop, all day and when I was letting that idle I played one of the PC games. I had been given a new PC game on Monday (Battlefield 2) that I was going to load onto the desktop PC but it was a PC CD version and I need the PC DVD version. For some reason this PC does not let me load CD versions of games. I had the same thing happen with a game called Titan Quest also. Whatever I had a great time playing a different game.

Today I've done a little bit of work. I had to send some information to our client and also had a quick conference with them. They have next week off so I'm thinking that I'll be "working from home" next week. At least that’s what I’m going to tell "OAG". I went searching for anyone else that might be doing the same thing I am but could only find this guy's blog - "Bored Ramblings Of an Office Worker" Not bad but he seems to post during his lunch breaks and actually cares about not getting fired. Poor guy. :)

I'll probably post once on here tomorrow and then that's it till next Tuesday. Yeah, even though X-mas is on Monday and all of our clients are off all next week I'm still technically supposed to be "working" because HQ will be working. Whatever, it's not like i do anything.

    Fuck 'em all...I'm playing games.

    Have fun at work, suckers.

    More of a chess match

So “Office Assistant Girl” (O.A.G) and I had a conversation this morning about our “Former boss/ US VP” and a conversation that he had two days ago with a representative from a major sports group that we have a license with. “O.A.G.” is friends with the representative and got the story from him because he was asking her if he “Was off his medication” because no one in their right mind would act this way during a business conversation. From this point on I will refer to this former boss as “Dickboy” because he is the most retarded and useless man I’ve had the displeasure of working for. Some quick stories of Dickboy:

    Story#1:

While I was on a business trip to “Country A” he called me from the HQ country and requested I come to HQ and give a presentation on the state of affairs at the production office in “Country A”. Now I don’t speak the HQ Country language and he is VERY well aware of this. I pack up with a days notice and travel to HQ Country. I get to the airport in HQ country where I am greeted by…NO ONE! Unfortunately my business cards were all printed in English and when presenting the HQ address to cab drivers I would get shoulder shrugs and waved off. After 2 hours of sitting on the curb I finally found a phone number to a colleague that I knew in HQ country who also worked for our company. I called him up let him know the situation and he let me know I was about 2 hours away from him but he’d talk to a cabbie and get me to him. I handed my cell phone to the cabbie and had this colleague talk to the cabbie and arrived in HQ City 2 hours later. I then had him use his company credit card to get me a hotel because yet again Dickboy made no living arrangements for me; he just told me to get there and did nothing else full well knowing that he had asked me to come to HQ Country and stay for 4 days. He also had left HQ Country the day before I had arrived so I had no way of yelling at him until I got back to the US. When I confronted him about leaving me in that situation he just laughed and said well you made it out ok right, don’t be mad.

    Story #2

Another Dickboy move: I called the US office to get some info from one of the former sales guys. When I called, “O.A.G.” answered and she sounded sad so I asked, “are you ok” to which she said yes and quickly passed me off to Sales Guy. I asked Sales Guy what was up and he told me that Dickboy had yelled and screamed at O.A.G. for “Not having a pleasant phone voice”! He yelled at this girl and made her cry because he thought she did not have a “Pleasant phone voice”

    Story#3

Last summer Dickboy though that web based video games would be an easy major money maker so he hired a web developer to start making games. WE DON”T MAKE VIDEO GAMES. (as much as I’d like to, we don’t) This was in no way anything that our company does; Dickboy thought it would make a lot of money so he just decided to hire people. No research, no business plan, no conversation with the rest of us as to how we could make it work, he just decided and did it. The whole time this guy was here he was like “So, what do you guys do? Why am I here? Is the company changing its strategy?” this lasted all of one month and when the guy didn’t have a working game making money for us in this one month time span Dickboy fired him for…get this… “incompetence”!

I could go on about how Dickboy has single handedly ruined this office and put me in the position I’m in right now. But, just when I thought he could fuck up no more, he goes and does this. The conversation “O.A.G.” and I had this morning was about his latest major blunder.

At some point last year (2005) Dickboy purchased a major sports license for use in our HQ Country. This license has nothing to do with any of the products that my US office is now or ever has been associated with. But because we have to pay yearly on this license Dickboy thought he had found a way out of paying for it. (Now seriously, Dickboy came over from HQ Country to the US and got an MBA at a mid-west university, you would think just by having the undergrad degree that he’d have at least one ounce of common sense. He is the stupidest man I have ever met with his amount of power!) So his way of getting out of the major sports license payment, he called the US representative that he negotiated the deal with and told him that we could not pay the fee because the US office was going bankrupt!

    1) The US office has nothing to do with this license

    2) “O.A.G.” and I had no idea about this bankrupt issue.

    3) Dickboy called “O.A.G” last week and asked what the contract stated about bankruptcy and of course “O.A.G.” did not tell me about this so I had no idea this was coming.

    4) Had she told me about this I would have mentioned to Dickboy my past experience with this major sports company because I had worked with them at my previous company “Company A”.

    5) When the sports company rep. informed Dickboy of a potential lawsuit, Dickboy nonchalantly said “HE DID NOT CARE!” He apparently said “Go ahead, we don’t have the money anyway.”

    6) I guarantee no one at HQ knows about this.

    7) When this sports company sues us they will, take control of all company assets and then sell them off to recoup their losses. I’ve seen them do it before.

The thing that really kills me about this is that Dickboy initiated this call! As we all know major companies like this will have to get back from the holidays, send out the invoice, and then give a grace period for the payment to come in. Had Dickboy just sat on his ass and not paid the bill we would not have heard anything from the sports people until March at the earliest and maybe even as late as May.

    Fuck them all…I’m playing games!

    Have fun at work. :)

    Good times had by all.
    Wednesday, December 20, 2006

I found out last night prior to “Office Assistant Girl” leaving for the night that, HQ has requested that we begin to sell all of the office furniture that we are not currently using. Now, keep in mind at one point we had 10 people working here and now it’s just “O.A.G.” and me. The office space seemed to be too big for just two of us and it’s like living in a creepy old huge house that no one visits. So we started posting the furniture on CraigsList.org and some other CL type sites yesterday. I have been interrupted (interrupted from playing one of my PC games J ) about every 25 minutes to answer calls about the furniture because it’s like a freaking fire sale.

We have also been asked by HQ to look into getting rid of the company cars. These are thecompany cars that had been given to me to use as part of my “promotion package”. Yeah sure, and I’ll have a job in a month, whatever. This is the kind of shit that makes me say “You know what, I don’t care that I’m not doing shit for your company” fuck these guys, now it’s just a chess game for me. Do I get canned once the final project gets completed or are they going to release me prior to that and just back out of the contract that we have with the last remaining client? What will be the grounds for my dismissal and how long are they going to wait to do it. I have a sneaking suspicion that they've already got this in the works and are waiting for the holidays to be over. Neither situation will surprise me.

Until then…Screw you guys, I’m playing games!

How the hell are you doing?
I am so happy this morning. I got into work looked at my e-mail and discovered that "Office Assistant Girl" would be out all day today. What this means for me is that I get to plug my speakers in to listen to the sounds of the PC games I'm playing rather than the crappy headphones I've had to wear.

I also got a new game last night "Battlefield 2" for my PC. Can wait to play it...ALL DAY!

Have fun at work today. :)

    Most of today.
    Tuesday, December 19, 2006

So far most of my time today has been spent trying to get as many people as possible connected to my blog. I want to see what people think about what I'm doing and have created a Poll which is located over there to the right of your screen.

I've also added a bunch of links to the games I've been playing and web sites I'm surfing.

    Go take the poll.

I’m going to play some “Tycoon”.

    Thoughts on Yesterday

After posting yesterdays recap I began a 5 hour search through the internet for Christmas presents, updating my online games and reading about a kid in New Jersey who recorded his teacher proselytizing in a public school history class. I also posted a comment to the online discussion about it where the people of the town are the most closed minded group of idiots and are ganging up on this kid for doing the right thing.

Oh well, I’m not about to rant about this on here, I’ll leave that for my other blogs when I get to them later on today. I do have a quick conference call with our client on the West Coast but after that’s done I’ll be playing my “Tycoon” game. I started a new level last night during my last hour and half of “work” and would like to see if I can finish it by the end of the day.

So, that was yesterday and I’ll be sure to update you tomorrow with all of today’s “Work”. Hope you have fun at your job today; just make sure the boss doesn’t see you reading this. LOL!

    Last Week
    Monday, December 18, 2006

Well, since I spent most of last week posting the back story to this adventure I will now get up to date with latest events. Starting today and for the remainder of my time here at "Company B", I will give a daily report of my activities during working hours.

    To finish the catch-up phase:

For the majority of November I would say that I only spent about 2 hours each day doing actual work.

Most of December has been the same way.

Two weeks ago I purchased a "Tycoon" game that i loaded onto my Laptop (a business laptop) so that way I could play games on the laptop in the office while "Office assistant Girl" would think I was doing actual work.

I played that game for Wed, Thurs and Friday 2 weeks ago without doing more than 2 hours of work total in that same time period. Mon. and Tue. of 2 weeks ago I did the normal 1 or 2 hours of work each day and spent the rest of the time updating my online game accounts, posting to my other blogs and IM'ing friends links to "NSFW" content of porn and disturbing “You Tube” videos. Most of Tuesday of that week was spent searching girl fight videos on You Tube.

Last week I again spent quite a bit of time playing the “Tycoon" game on Mon, Tues, and Wed. again averaging about an hour or 2 of actual work completed through that entire 3 day period. But part of Wed was spent going over game rules for a TV Game Show I think I might be able to produce; I spent about 3 hours on that.

Thursday last week I added some commentary to a Movie plot I've been working on and off of and also spent 3 hours putting this blog together.

Friday I came into work and immediately started working on this blog. Went to lunch down the street, came back and updated online game accounts for 2 hours, loaded a new game into the desk top PC, then cleaned out and filed 500 e-mails in a personal e-mail account that I've been
    neglecting.

So, there is the recap of my daily activities for the past month and a half. Starting tomorrow I will document each day of "work" that I do and will finally and honestly begin - "The Count Down To My Own Demise"! Fuck this place, I’m playing games!

    September to mid-December
    Friday, December 15, 2006

So, about 3 months ago I returned from a trip overseas for work that I was doing for “Company B”. I had been there for about 8 weeks when I finally decided that I could finish the project from the US office and get back home to my wife and my own bed. The day I returned to work I was quite surprised, not only had everyone but the office assistant/ translator been fired but I was going to get a “promotion”. This promotion included me taking charge of everything including sales! I was also offered a generous increase in salery and use of the company car. But, I barely had a grip on how to do the job I was already doing and I was winging it pretty good so, to have to manage all aspects of the company with no direct support from the HQ office was just asinine. I expressed this thought with the Senior VP of my office who had not been fired but transferred to the HQ office and he just said that I would have to do the best job I could. Well, Ok.

I put a great effort into learning all I could about sales and forecasting and marketing, and every other aspect I knew about but had no pervious experience with. I began talking to former client reps that I had become friendly with about the possibility of showing their company our other products. I questioned former colleagues from “Company “A”’ about revenue forecasting, licensing contracts, and worldwide distribution channels. I did this all while maintaining the day to day needs of the remaining two projects that I was working on, “Project X” was quickly coming to a close. While “Project Y” was about 1/3 complete and I knew once we got close to finishing it I would be able to start on that company’s next project as we had been in talks about 6 total projects over 2 years.

In October of this year (2006) I was in the final week of closing out “Project X” and I was still going strong researching all I could about every other aspect of this business when the shit hit the fan. I had normally been paid once every 2 weeks, pretty normal for most companies now a day, but the on 2nd week in Oct I got my check from the office assistant on Friday night and went to the bank on Saturday to cash it. I was told by the teller that I would not be able to cash this check due to no funds being in the account. This was not the first time this had happened but the first time I dismissed it as a clerical error. Now, I’m not going to bring up every little thing that has annoyed me about this company since I’ve been here such as computer and phone issues, flight and hotel mix up’s or non-arrangements that have left stranded me in countries that I could not speak the language, blatant lying to me about the working arrangements in our production offices that have altered time schedules so bad that we were let go by a client. I mean I could go into detail about every one of these as it has been a pile of problems that led up to this payment issue but it is the payment issue that made me snap.

Once I left the bank I immediately called the office assistant to let her know that we had money problems. (Note: this account is separate from the HQ account so the company as a whole was not screwed, just my US office) I let her know that she would have problems with her check to which she replied, “Yeah, well.. I know, I was hoping the money would be in the account by today. I’ll ask HQ about it on Monday. This to me is bullshit and yet another lie because she was hoping the money would be deposited from our HQ bank to our US bank on a Saturday which is actually Sunday at HQ. I call shenanigans on that one but continued to try to get to the bottom of it. I told her we needed to contact HQ right away and scheduled a conference call with her and the HQ accountant late Sunday night (Sunday night US time/ Monday morning HQ time) She agreed and told me that she would explain the outcome of the meeting to me on Monday morning, fine. Monday morning I come in and ask what went wrong. She begins to explain to me how our office has not provided any revenue and that HQ was concerned. To which I told her I didn’t give a shit about that, I am trying to do my job and create revenue, by myself, and would not be able to do so without getting paid to do so. She looked confused at this logic. I then bluntly asked when the money was going to be placed into the account. She began to explain that the HQ accountant was not authorized to place any more funds into our US account and that in order for us to get paid we had to get our development check from “Company A”! Yes my first project was with the company I had just left in order to take this position. So yes, “Company A” fired us 3 months prior due to our schedule for work to be completed being a complete lie, as I explained a few paragraphs ago ‘ blatant lying to me about the working arrangements in our production offices that have altered time schedules so bad that we were let go by a client.’ So HQ decided that we were held accountable because “Company A” had not sent our final development check, which was legally owed to us.

This just pissed me off to no end and I’m not the kind of person to just up and quit a job when A) I have no immediate job lined up and B) I would not want to leave my remaining project hanging with no way for it to be finished and ultimately burn a bridge at this high profile company. So I began to write e-mails off to every officer of the company that could do something about it – well ok, I wrote e-mails to the only people I knew in HQ could speak English! But this included the CEO, CFO, Senior VP who was previously my boss in the US and the Director of Operations in our other production house. It was addressed to my newly appointed Director who I kind of reported to. So, instead of writing about the e-mail I’m just going to alter the original e-mail so I can post it here.

    Here it is:

    Hi Mr. Director,

I know that you have only recently taken over as the head of our Operation in America recently but it is my unfortunate position to inform you of our current financial state of affairs.

It is now Oct 16th and I have not been given my check for this pay period due to no money being currently in the account. I had been explained to me (by Former boss and Senior VP) when I started working that checks would be given on the 1st and the 15th of each month. The following is a list of how payments have been given to me for the last few months.

July 15th – This check bounced and I had to pay penalties to my bank because Former boss put a hold on all checks. I am unsure why a hold was placed on the checks but he did finally pay me for the amount of the check 3 days later. This effected 3 employees here, Sales Guy, Production Assistant Boy, and myself.

Aug 1st and Aug 15th – Was paid to me prior to my departure for (overseas office) so that I could take care of my bills while I was away on business for (our company).

Sept 1st – My check was sent to my Wife so that she could pay my bills while I was still away on Business at (overseas office).

Sept 15th – I was told on Friday when I got my check to please wait until Monday the 2nd to make sure there was enough money in the account before I cashed it. This effected both (Office assistant Girl) and myself.

Oct 1st – This check was given to me as I left work on Friday the 29th because the 1st was a Sunday and banks are not open, I went to cash it on Sat the 30th and was told that there was not enough money in the account to cash it. Money was finally placed into the account on Monday the 2nd and I cashed my check on Tuesday the 3rd. This effected both (Office assistant Girl) and myself.

Oct 15th - As this pay day fell again on a Sunday I figured we would wait until Monday (today) to make sure that there was a deposit made. I have been informed by (Office assistant Girl) that she has talked to (HQ Accountant guy) in accounting and that he has informed her that there will not be a deposit placed into this account until (Our Company) receives a check from (“Company A”) in regards to the (“Project W”) final payment. Neither I nor (Office assistant Girl) has any control over what another company does, or does not do. Why (Office assistant Girl) and I have to be personally responsible for this lack of accounting on (“Company A”), or any other companies, part in no way diminishes our contributions to (Our Company) and the work we’ve done in the past 15 days. If there is any further explanation I would be very interested to hear it.

Mr. Director, as you can see, this has been an ongoing issue and one that is very difficult to deal with as it affects our personal well being. Since you have just be placed in charge of things here for the US office I would just like to ask that there be a set day on which we can expect our check and also that when we do receive checks that there is money in the account so that it can be cashed accordingly.

I thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.

    ~Me

The response I got was from not Mr. Director but the CFO who, from what I understand is really running things over there. He also included the entire financial team on the e-mail and had it written in both languages (English and the HQ language)

    Dear Me,

I will take care of this as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience. Is there a chance that the US office employees receive monthly salary rather then bi-weekly salary? Currently US office is the only office receiving bi-weekly salary and thus causing some confusion.

    To which I replied:

    Hi Mr CFO,
Thank you for looking into this matter as it is becoming more than just an inconvenience.

I would be open to the option of Monthly salary but currently I have a staggered bill schedule and do need to make payments on them as of 2 days ago, I’ve since used personal savings to cover those costs thus far. Although I can arrange to begin a monthly salary starting in December once I have taken care of the immediate needs.

Please take into consideration that I do still need a funds to be delivered to the US account as soon as possible so that I can cash the current paycheck.

Thank you again for your attention to this matter and I will be available to discuss the start date for an alternate monthly salary at any time.
    ~Me

    This was his response:

    Me,

It has been arranged. We will start to give out monthly salary starting December then. (HR team please note)

So, this e-mail tagging had gone on for 3 days and it took another 2 days to get the funds into the account. I have not had any issues since but the end of this month will be the first full month payment and I am wondering if they are going to screw that up.

It was sometime the week after this that I began to question my loyalty to this place and stress I was putting myself under to take on more tasks to do a job that would really only smear my name through this incestuous industry because ultimately we would never finish it correctly. Office assistant girl continued to lie to me about schedules and conversations she had with HQ and ultimately about what she was doing day-to-day. So I began to slack off and became somewhat despondent. I was maintaining that level of work needed to “get by” with our final project, “Project Y” and started playing PC video games after lunch every day. Then I began to surf the internet more and more each morning and have started playing PC games before and after lunch now. I’m involved with 4 online group based contests that I update my user accounts on average of an hour each every day. I literally have slowed down to an hour or two of work each day.

    Back Story
    Thursday, December 14, 2006

I will start this count down with a bit of my back story.

Nine months ago I was hired to fill a role at Company “B” that would have been a normal assent in my career. My former employer Company “A” had begun a quick and gruesome dismantling of the organization and it was at that time I knew that I need to look elsewhere in this industry to continue my climb to my ideal title. The biggest issue was that I was trying to jump departments. As with most industries you can’t obtain the job you would like unless you have some amount of experience. I had dutifully climbed the ranks in my own department at Company “A” and had made somewhat of a name for my self. There was not a single person in the chain that didn’t think I had what it took to make that transition and I was told on more than one occasion, and by senior level management, that as soon as a position opened up, I would be the one to fill it. It was at this same that the board members and Chief Officers of Company “A’s” parent company decided to dismantle our division. So with the help of more than one of the people who had been released from Company “A” I was recommended as a great candidate for the open position in Company “B”.

Company “B” seemed like the typical development house that I had worked with at company “A”, but it was only a mater of days that I realized that this company was lacking any experienced professional staff, even more alarming was that I – yes, I – had the most experience in this industry at Company “B” and I started my new job by immediately putting out fires. Some of our clients are extremely high profile and it was only by lying to them that the sales department had originally been able to convince these clients that we could do the work. In the last 9 months I have spent 3 months traveling overseas to help oversee our projects and on my last trip (which lasted more than 6 weeks) I returned to my office where all but 2 of the 10 employees had been fired. The two remaining employees are me and my translator/ office assistant. I had a dark feeling of being back in Company “A” a year ago when the same thing began. Of the three major products that I had started working on 9 months ago I am currently left with one and since the lying sales team has been fired and I see no new projects coming in from HQ I can only determine that once I finish with my current project, it will ultimately be my last.

So there are the quick and dirty details of my current situation. As the header of this blog states, I fill the majority of my time playing video games on my computer here in the office and writing blogs about nothing and treatments for T.V. shows. I’ve also begun outlining the idea for a movie and learning new computer programs. I get paid roughly $60K per year to come into an office and do what ever the hell I want to. What would you do with your time if you were in my situation? Yes, well, I have just about exhausted my self with sending out resumes and feel as though no one will be hiring someone with my credentials until after the New Year or even later into February. I also want to see how long I can really stretch out this pitiful existence as a paid video game player.
